SHAH ALAM - Pas youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has described the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds amounting to RM90 million which allegedly went into the Pas account as an "opera show" played over and again as the general election approaches.

In his Facebook page, the Pasir Mas MP explained why he called it an opera show.

He said on July 19, 2018 he had stood up at Dewan Rakyat to ask Damansara MP Tony Pua over the parties who received money from 1MDB.

"My question was where is Pas's name? His answer was that I have no information, please ask the finance minister (Lim Guan Eng).

"On April 2, 2019 once again I raised the RM90 million issue issued at the Dewan rakyat. Deputy law minister Hanipa Maidin said it was still under probe by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). He even ordered that there should be no speculation," said Fadhli.

Previously, the Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim claimed in his statement that Pas had failed to explain the Sarawak Report editor Claire Rewcastle-Brown's claim that the party received RM90 million in funds by settling a defamation suit out of court and paying RM1.4 million to the editor.

But Fadhli said the issue of settling a lawsuit outside of the court was the right of the plaintiff and it can be withdrawn.

"If the plaintiff feels there's no need to continue the suit based on the cost and health issues it can be withdrawn and that does not prove the plaintiff or the defendant guilty.

"As for those in power in the country, why did they not proceed with civil prosecution?

"The reality is, this RM90 million issue is nothing more than an old opera show being played over and again," he said.
