Cabinet agrees in principle to drafting political funding bill, says minister

Wan Junaidi said he had tabled the basic scope of the bill to the Cabinet on Sept 7 to have an independent team to regulate political donations in the country.

Calls for a political funding laws grew liuder following reports that then-prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had received a US$681 million (RM2.99 billion) political donation in his personal account.
The issue involved the political donations had also been widely discussed as former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi faces corruption charges at the High Court over money received from Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd (UKSB).
Pas has so far has denied of receiving RM90 million funds from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
