SHAH ALAM - Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri for Najib Razak title awarded in 2004 and Datuk awarded in 1992 have been revoked by the Selangor Sultan.

His wife, Datuk Seri Rosmah Mansor’s Datin Paduka Seri title has also been revoked.

State Secretary Datuk Haris Kasim said the withdrawal of the Selangor state was by the order of Selangor Sultan after consultation with the Selangor Council of the Royal Court.

He said Najib was bestowed the Order of His Majesty the Crown Prince of Selangor or Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor (SPMS) First Class which carried the title of Datuk Seri in 2004 and Order of His Majesty the Crown Prince of Selangor (DPMS) Second Class which carries the title of Datuk in 1992.

Haris said Najib was charged in the High Court on a few charges which involved the case of misuse of power, criminal breach of trust, and money laundering to the SRC International Sdn Bhd funds on Aug 23, 2022.

"The Federal Court upheld the conviction and sentence towards him which was previously decided by the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

"With the conviction and sentence imposed on him, his membership as the SPMS First Class which carries the title of Datuk Seri and the DPMS second class which carried the title of Datuk are revoked and cancelled effective on Monday," he said in a statement on Monday.

As for Rosmah, she was charged in court on three charges involving the offences of asking and receiving bribes.

He said the High Court on Sept 1, 2022 convicted and sentenced her for the charges that were faced.

"With this based on the conviction and sentence towards her, her membership as an SPMS first class that carried the title of Datin Paduka Seri was revoked and cancelled effective on Monday.

The revocation and cancellation were in line with Article XXXVIII and Article XXXIX of the Laws of the Constitution of Selangor 1959 as well as the Status of Majesty and conventions practiced in Selangor.
