PUTRAJAYA - Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has denied claims that Datuk Seri Najib Razak will be referred to the National Heart Institute (IJN) for medical treatment.

He said prisoners need to go undergo treatment in government hospitals based on procedures set for inmates.

"The procedure is to refer prisoners to a government hospital and in Najib's case the Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has decided to send him to Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL)," he said.

Earlier it was reported that Najib may be referred to IJN for treament. He was admitted in HKL yesterday.

Earlier today, at Kuala Lumpur Court Complex, Najib's lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah had said his client may be referred to the National Heart Institute (IJN).

IJN is a private entity or corporate body under the Ministry of Finance.

Khairy also gave his assurance that the health ministry will provide the best treatment to everyone including prisoners.

"We will give our best treatment to all inmates, not only Najib. It is our duty," he said.
