Drug case suspect dies while receiving treatment - Police

IPOH - A senior citizen who was arrested in connection with a drug case at Jalan Carey here on Saturday, died at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) today.

Ipoh District Police chief ACP Yahaya Hassan said the 62-year-old male suspect was found to be in an unwell state at about 9 am, when he was due to be brought from the Jelapang Police Station to the Magistrate's Court here to be charged.

"The police contacted the hospital and the detainee was sent to HRPB in an ambulance," he said in a statement here today.

Yahaya said the detainee was confirmed dead following emergency treatment at about 10.30 am, adding that the case was being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Unit on Deaths in Custody (USJKT) under the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS).

"An autopsy will be done tomorrow to find out the cause of death," he said. - BERNAMA
