SHAH ALAM - Umno is a shallow-minded party if the dissolution of Parliament is announced and the 15th General Election (GE15) is held during the monsoon season at the end of the year.

Selangor Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) chairman Izham Hashim said holding the election during the seasonal floods was a ridiculous idea, let alone willingness to wade through the floods to carry out election campaigns.

"I remember the time when we waded through the floods in Taman Sri Muda, Section 25 to save lives and properties. It was not as wonderful as what Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had imagined.

"The statement showed how detached Umno is to the people’s sufferings,” he said in a statement on his Facebook page on Sunday.

This was following Zahid’s speech during the launch of Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth election machinery, that the coalition was willing to wade through flood waters to campaign for GE15 if it was held during the monsoon season.

On Saturday, the Umno president was reported to have said that if GE15 was held at the end of the year, even though some states would face the floods, the coalition’s Youth machinery was prepared.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Izham said the Selangor government had made preparations to deal with seasonal floods which was expected to happen between November to December.

"The information and flood warnings would be issued from time to time,” he said.
