SHAH ALAM – People always associate Puteri Umno with having a bunch of young, unintelligent women and a place for mistresses when young professionals and educated individuals should lead it.

Puteri Umno member Zarra Z. Rawi said Umno should instead make the youth women’s wing as a platform for its members who have more to offer.

“Publicly, people say Puteri Umno is a dumb bimbo and it is a place to be someone’s mistress, second wives, gain easy money, position and if you want to hold a higher position, then go be Puteri Umno.

“Most people think that way, and people think they are not smart and one more thing, they need to lose weight because they are too big,” she told Sinar Daily during the Politically Frank segment.

Asked about what was stopping Puteri Umno from achieving its full potential, she said it was how the members were brought up.

“Basically, it is the way they think and the way they have been brought up, because we grew up in different environments, so our mentality is different,” she said.

Zarra said Puteri Umno should figure out how they would approach people with backgrounds, mindset, and different circles of people saying they need to offer them ‘something’ to have their attention.

In 2018, she was appointed as the Selayang Puteri Umno deputy chief but decided to leave the division in 2019 due to the political turmoil in the country at that time.

“I quit the party because the political turmoil in our nation was not stable at that time, so I was struggling with my job and my economy was bad.

“In politics, everything is not stable and there are a lot of issues going on so I decided to leave and focus on my career because at least I can get something out of it instead of politics.

She also added that she could not stand the disrespectful attitude of some senior Umno members when she was still in the division.

“A senior had the guts to yell at me in the meeting in front of everyone saying I was playing with my phone. Which was stupid.

“I expect him to understand that I’m a working person who left my office. I was working around the clock but still managed to attend his meeting,” she said.

This, she said, was the final straw as she could not tolerate the disrespect and decided to leave the division.

However, she said she is still a loyal member of Umno due to its history and track record.
