SHAH ALAM- The Cabinet meeting yesterday focused mostly on flood preparations and touched on the 15th General Election (GE15), said Law Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said it will be wet months ahead from September til December.

“What has been discussed was basically about floods and preparations for temporary shelters, assistance for the victims and all those things,” he told Sinar Daily.

Wan Junaidi further said that the Cabinet takes the flood warning by experts seriously.

“During the discussion, the prime minister was asking whether places for temporary evacuation centres have been gazetted, how many places have been gazetted and who will make sure the gazetting is being done.

“The discussion was very much about the rakyat, the supplies needed in certain areas including in kampungs and at other areas affected by floods, and may not get food supplies,” he said.

However, he said there was no mention of when the Parliament will be dissolved as no one asked. .

Commenting further, he said the elections would cost a steep RM1.01 billion.

“But then again, the implications must be considered and there may be some states that refused to dissolve state assemblies but they still need to do it before July next year,” he said.

This, he said, would open up doors for two possible elections at federal and state level, adding that this was discussed during the meeting.

Recently, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong revealed that the Cabinet held discussions on preparations for floods and GE15.

However, Wee said he cannot fully reveal the content of the Cabinet discussion.

“We have discussed election preparations and yes, we need to prepare ourselves to face GE15. At the same time, we cannot ignore preparations for floods. That is something we learnt from last year," he said, adding that the preparation can be done concurrently.
