KULIM - The Kulim Municipal Council (MPKK) launches a new parking system the Kulim Smart Parking app today making it the first local authority in Kedah to use a smart parking app.

The app is a collaboration between MPKK and HeiTech Padu Berhad to manage a smart parking system for 7,000 parking bays under the council’s jurisdiction.

MPKK secretary Amal Zubir said the app was the council’s initiative to improve and upgrade the standard of its services from the aspects of governance, operations and service delivery to customers especially in parking management.

"The public can use the app for parking-related transactions including paying for parking and for the monthly parking passes.

"The Kulim Smart Parking app is a quick win initiative that supports the development of Kulim towards a Smart City," she said when launching the app here today witnessed by HeiTech Padu vice-president Abdul Halim Md Lassim.

The app will be available on Apple App Store, Huawei App Gallery and Google Play Store in stages by the end of this month and can be fully used in early October, she said adding that it would help users save time as they can pay using e-wallets.

Amal said the app would encourage the public to inculcate a tech culture in their daily life and interactions and thanked Kulim residents and the general public for providing feedback and suggestions that enabled the council to improve their service delivery.

"Based on a study conducted in June, the majority of respondents agreed that online payments for parking online using smartphones are easier compared to cash payments,”she added.

Meanwhile, Abdul Halim said HeiTech Padu will ensure the standard of service for the app would be implemented as best as possible to live up to the aspirations and Kulim’s identity as a High Technology Industrial Town.
