PONTIAN – The invitation letter circulated in connection with Umno’s special meeting with its President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to take place on Tuesday is true.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the meeting that involved all Umno leaders as well as the Youth, Women and Puteri wings would be held at the Tun Hussein Onn Hall, Kuala Lumpur World Trade Center (WTCKL).

“I would like to confirm that there will be a meeting on Tuesday as stated in the viral letter with my signature on it.

"This means 764 representatives which consists of division chiefs, Youth division chief, Wanita division chief and Puteri division chief representing 191 Umno divisions from all over the country will be attending on Tuesday," he said.

He said this at a press conference after he officiated the ‘Ayuh Cergas’ Carnival at Dewan Jubli Intan here earlier.

The Pontian MP said the special meeting would focus on preparations for the 15th General Election (GE15).

"This special meeting is not a secret because it is a meeting to discuss the preparations for GE15.

"Umno has applied for it to be held this year as well. But of course, we don't want it to be held during the flood," he said.

Ahmad said Umno President and the Prime Minister would be the main spokespersons for the special meeting this Tuesday.

He also didn’t rule out the possibility of GE15 candidates being discussed during the special meeting.

"Zahid and Ismail Sabri will speak at a special meeting later and they will be the main spokesperson.

“Regarding the candidate, Umno has not finalised yet, but we need to hear first what these two main leaders have to say.

"However, Umno still outlines the characteristics of 'guardian' candidates which are winnable' (can win), 'acceptable' (accepted) and 'likeable' (likeable) as stipulated during the State Election (PRN) and by-election (PRK) before this," he said.

On Saturday, a letter signed by Ahmad regarding a special meeting with the Umno president and the Prime Minister went viral on social media which sparked speculation that GE15 is approaching.
