AMPANG – Police arrested a babysitter over an alleged child abuse case after an eight-month-old child was injured in Taman Putra, here, on Friday.

Ampang Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the 43-year old woman was arrested on Saturday after police received a report made by the mother on Friday.

“Based on the reports made by the victim’s mother, she realised her child suffered injuries with bite marks on her face and bruise marks on both of the child’s ears.

“The victim was referred to Ampang Hospital for further examinations,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Farouk said the investigations showed the suspect had six children under her care aged between three months and two-years old.

“The suspect had two biological children who lived with her, a boy and girl aged eight and 16-years old.

“The suspect had left the victim and the home for two hours.

“The injuries incident was believed to be from the other children biting the victim’s face,” he said.

He said the suspect was remanded for four days from Sunday to Wednesday to aid investigations.

“The case is investigated under Section 31 (1) of the Child Act 2001 because she had allegedly abandoned the child under her care until she suffered physical injuries,” he said.
