KUALA LUMPUR - The government’s procurement circular is a model for good governance to ensure its procurements are implemented based on the principles of accountability, transparency, best interest value, as well as fair and open competition.

Deputy Finance Minister I Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah said the circular, which serves as guidance for ministries and agencies, encompasses elements such as environmental, social, and governance (ESG) are applied in procedures in the award of government contracts.

"In order to manage environmental sustainability and natural resources efficiently, emphasis will be given to some of the procurement procedures implemented,” he said in response to queries from Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa (Amanah-Parit Buntar) in Parliament.

"For example, under social responsibility, the award of government contracts emphasises the compliance of existing government policies, including the policies on local materials and services and priority for Bumiputera companies,” he added. - BERNAMA
