SHAH ALAM - Budget 2023 is deemed as an allocation to help the elites, especially government contractors and tycoons.

Subang MP Wong Chen said there was a very high increment in the government's development expenditure of RM97 billion.

He said it was different from subsidy management expenses, where there was a reduction of RM17 billion compared to last year.

"When we talk about management expenses, it is basically a subsidy for the poor and middle-class people.

"So, for 2023, we see a reduction of RM17 billion for subsidies but the government's development expenditure increases to RM97 billion, which is very high. Those are government contracts.

"So, who benefits from government contracts? It benefits related contractors and tycoons to the government," he said in a post shared on his official TikTok account on Friday.

Wong said although Budget 2023 was considered an election budget, the public needed to understand the matter.

"In real terms, social assistance, social support and security are low, but what Tengku Zafrul didn't mention is that the beneficiaries of the RM97 billion are the riches and the recipients of relevant government contracts," he explained.
