ALOR GAJAH - Melaka is targeting 12 golds in the Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) 2022, which will be held in the Klang Valley from Nov 1 to 6.

State Youth Development, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman V.P. Shanmugam said this was a realistic target based on the performances of Melaka’s athletes for the biennial games.

He said Melaka would be represented by 64 athletes in eight sports - badminton, athletics, weightlifting, swimming, tenpin bowling, chess, lawn bowls and table tennis.

"We are eyeing five golds in swimming, two each from tenpin bowling and chess, and one each from badminton, athletics and table tennis. This target is achievable," he told reporters at the National Sports Day 2022 celebration at the Masjid Tanah Sports Complex here today.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali launched the celebration involving more than 1,000 people participating in various sports activities, including a demonstration on the art of self-defence, zumba, roller skating and a 5km Fun Run.
