Warisan urges transparency in Budget 2023 as country's debts balloon

KOTA KINABALU - Warisan chief Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal describes the 2023 Budget tabled on Friday as the largest in Malaysian history which could also lead the country to a bigger debt.

Due to that the Semporna MP wants the 2023 Budget to be detailed and refined for transparency.

“The budget is historic because it is the biggest amount since our independence which is RM372 billion, and along with it comes the biggest debt.

“The country’s debt has hit an additional of RM90 billion more. The revenue earned by the country was at RM272 billion," he said to reporters in a press conference here, on Sunday.

He said that even though subsidies are maintained but there is no increment despite it being the people’s needs

The education ministry, he said received the largest allocation of almost RM55 billion and the defence ministry received RM17 billion,” he said.

He said the budget also lacked long-term initiatives.

“I want to thank the government but we must see how the budget will follow the ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ theme,” he said.
