BAGAN SERAI - The Perak police contingent will be deploying 7,124 police officers and personnel for the 15th general election (GE15), said Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.

He said his party had made various preparations to face GE15 which will be held at any time.

"I believe we can control and ensure that the general election will run well and in an orderly manner in accordance with the regulations issued by the Election Commission.

"We will also ensure that the public, especially the voters, can go out (on polling day) in a safe environment to cast their votes," he told reporters after witnessing the Kerian district police chief's handover ceremony at Kerian police headquarters here today.

At the ceremony, Kerian district police deputy chief DSP Hudri Mohd Arshad will take over the position as Kerian police chief Supt Mazuki Mat has retired.

Yesterday, caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of Parliament after receiving the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to pave the way for GE15.

Meanwhile, Mohd Yusri said police are also ready to mobilise various assets to help other government agencies deal with floods throughout the Northeast Monsoon season.

"Various assets such as lifeboats and other rescue aids such as life jackets are all on standby," he said.

The media reported that the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) is forecasting continuous heavy rain from mid-November, leading to major floods at the end of the month. - BERNAMA
