The video game industry in Malaysia has become one of the fastest growing industries in the digital economy.

Level Up KL 2022 is the way forward for Malaysia in enhancing Malaysia’s position as a regional hub by creating a conducive, inclusive, and globally competitive digital content ecosystem.

The annual event organised by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) made its return this year with existing physical format, gathered around 1,500 participants, 80 speakers and over 100 exhibitors from all over the world.

Level Up KL 2022 is in the commitment of the Communications and Multimedia Ministry in establishing and empowering Malaysia to become a world-class gaming ecosystem in Southeast Asia.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said that the campaign is also a platform to showcase talents of Malaysian gaming industry to the eyes of the world.

“Level Up KL showcases the breadth of talents in Malaysia’s gaming industry to international players; hence, creating opportunities for partnerships and future investments from the region,” he told.

This year, MDEC announced several key updates on the Malaysian gaming industry, including the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with a Saudi Arabia-based gaming company, a home-grown game studio, and SEA Gamer Mall (SEAGM).

The signing of MoU with Nine66, a Saudi Arab-based gaming company, will provide opportunities for local talent to gain overseas internships, while the collaboration will also explore and promote Malaysia-Saudi Arabia game development.

Meanwhile, the signing with Magnus Games, a homegrown game studio, is intended to promote the Metaverse initiative and projects.
