AMPANG - Incumbent Gombak MP Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has slammed the political leaders who “jumped” to other constituencies to contest in the 15th General Election (GE15).

He said the purpose of contesting in an election was to serve the people, not do it out of envy and vengeance.

"Some had even carried out their duties only after the dissolution. They did not perform their duties at their area and then ran to other areas. Is this what we call a leader? Running from one place to another.

"We contest to serve the people. Not out of envy and vengeance. This is not the character of an honest and sincere leader in the struggle.

"When we are elected in a constituency, continue to serve in that area, but if our intentions are publicly expressed by saying I dislike this person or that person, so I want to go to that place. This is not a leader," he said during a press conference after officiating the International Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) Day 2022 here on Sunday.

He said this when commenting on the intention of the opposition to ensure that any leader involved with the Sheraton Move were defeated.

Mohamed Azmin, who is also the International Trade and Industry Minister said in the democratic process, anyone can contest.

"I don't have a problem. The people of Gombak have the power to determine the future of Gombak," he said.
