SHAH ALAM - Selangor state government did not rule out the possibility of conducting swimming lessons for voters, so that the latter can exercise their democratic rights on the off chance of a watery national poll.

The state's MB, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said that "teaching people how to swim" was part of their contigency plan if floods were to occur in Selangor during the coming 15th General Election (GE15).

However, whether voters will go out to cast their votes in such scenario was something beyond the state government's control.

“We will teach them how to swim, but that (the matter) is beyond us,” he said during the press conference after the closing ceremony of National Sports Council's 'Serve Rescue' training course at the Section 15 fire station here, today.

“That is why we have been urging for parliament to be dissolved after one or two months, but they have decided to go on with it notheless," added Amirudin.

He also pointed out that, severe flooding might be possible if one was to examine the projected rainfall volume in November.

“It may reach 300mm, which is almost equal to last year.

"And last year, a similar warning was also issed but people took it for granted," Amirudin warned.
