PUTRAJAYA - Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) will announce the list of its candidates for the 15th General Election (GE15) for Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang), next week.

Pejuang chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the capability and education level were among the things taken into account before someone was named as a candidate.

“We will not present a candidate that is involved in crime, stealing money and abuse of power.

“In Malaysia, people with no education could also become a minister, there is no limit... If you want to be an office boy, you have to pass standard four. If you want to become prime minister, there is no need to pass in anything,” he said sarcastically.

He said this during a press conference after chairing the GTA meeting at its office, here, on Wednesday.

He said GTA will continue explaining to the coalition members and the people of the concept it carried.

“GTA’s concept is not like other political parties and that is why we need to explain it so that no one gets confused.

“Not only (explain) to the GTA leaders, but also to the public so that they would not make the wrong choice by choosing crooks to be the government,” he said.

Asked if Pakatan Harapan (PH) or Umno were GTA’s real enemy, Dr Mahathir said:

“Umno is our enemy because if they win, the country would be destroyed,” he said.

He said if GTA was to cooperate with PH, the coalition would probably lose votes from the Malays.

“The problem with PH is that many Malays do not like DAP,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir denied a report by a news portal that he had asked for help from Putrajaya MP Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor while he (Dr Mahathir) was the seventh prime minister.

“Never,” he said.

Previously, it was reported that Dr Mahathir had allegedly asked for Tengku Adnan’s help as he could not stand Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) dan DAP.
