IPOH - Pakatan Harapan (PH) declares PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the Prime Minister candidate for the 15th General Election (GE15).

This was officially announced by PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution before being greeted with shouts and cheers from about 7,000 PH supporters present.

This, he said, was decided by the coalition’s presidential council after a series of meetings.

He said PH’s decision took into account their confidence in Anwar's character to save the country's economy.

“In any war, there will be a general and in the context of election, we also have a candidate for prime minister and the person is Anwar Ibrahim.

"We are not in the context of simply appointing any person to be a prime ministerial candidate, but the fact is that we want this figure to shoulder a considerable amount of trust in a very difficult situation," he said at the Pakatan Harapan 2022 Convention held at the Ipoh Convention Centre here.

At the same event, Anwar also confirmed that he will contest the Tambun parliamentary seat in Perak during GE15.

In his speech, he said he chose an area that was not easy to get a large majority and he felt responsible to strengthen the PH movement in the northern states.

The Tambun parliamentary seat is held by Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who is also the Youth and Sports Minister.
