PUTATAN - Barisan Nasional (BN) treasurer-general Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein is still unsure if he will be contesting in the Sembrong Parliamentary seat.

"It is not for me to decide where I want to compete and for me the most important thing is we should be prepared.

"In Sembrong, I have been told that whoever the candidate is decided by the leadership," he said in a press conference at the Lok Kawi Camp Residents Friendly Meeting here, on Saturday.

On the other hand, the Sembrong incumbent said his job at the moment was to ensure the machinery was prepared to win whoever the party nominates in the 15th General Election (GE15).

When asked if the grassroots in the Sembrong Parliament were seen to still want him to retain the seat, Hishammuddin who was also the Defense Minister maintained his position that the decision will be made by the party leadership.

"That is why we have decided at the top of the party leadership where candidates from division leaders should be given the opportunity to continue being nominated to serve and are brought to the top of the leadership.

"So the names they feel suitable for Sembrong have already been extended to the leadership, let them think of the best candidate for the Sembrong parliamentary constituency," he said.

Former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has so far indicated that he would be contesting for an unsafe seat.

Khairy previously expressed his readiness to hand over his Rembau Parliamentary seat to Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan during his closing speech at the Umno Rembau Division Delegates' Conference.
