Najib’s daughter suggests solving Kampung Baru issue

SHAH ALAM - Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s daughter, Nooryana Najwa suggests that the government use the redevelopment model that her father once implemented to solve the issue of land acquisition in Kampung Sungai Baru in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur.

She said the model was a public-private partnership redevelopment plan that was successfully implemented before for the Kerinchi Residence and 1Razak Mansion projects which were also located in the city centre.

Nooryana said the solution involved owners of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) flat in Kampung Baru who were dissatisfied with the compensation amount received as it was considered insufficient for them to buy a new house.

"I hope BN will consider using the existing model during Najib Razak’s era to solve the problems of PKNS Kampung Sungai Baru flat residents and also for all redevelopment projects of old flats across the country if BN wins the Titiwangsa Parliament and 15th General Election (GE15)," she said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

Nooryana said through the model, the original residents of Kerinchi Residence flat and 1Razak Mansion will get a replacement home at an apartment with the space and unit value higher than the original site.

The redevelopment of Kampung Sungai Baru located under the Titiwangsa Parliament, involved residents living in two types of homes, namely PKNS flats and houses on private land.

It was believed that 70 per cent of the owners in the area purportedly agreed to the redevelopment of the area and put their signatures.

In August 2021, several residents who have not signed the agreement received a notice of investigation under Form F of the Land Acquisition Act 1960 requesting them to appear at the PTG between Aug 23 and 26, 2021 to get their statements recorded.

In July 2021, the residents of Kampung Sungai Baru received a Gazette Notification under Section 8 of the Land Acquisition Act forcing them out of the land with compensation.

However, it was understood that a few residents disagreed with the compensation offered, which was between RM240,000 and RM260,000 for flat units and about RM400 per square foot for the terrace house category.

Nooryana said the issue of land redevelopment in the Kampung Baru area was expected to be used by potential candidates who will be competing in Titiwangsa in GE15.

Meanwhile, apart from Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) communications director Khalid Abdul Samad, among the other names expected to contest for the Titiwangsa parliamentary seat were Federal Territories Umno chairman Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Bersatu Armada chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.
