TANJUNG MALIM - Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) is taking a positive approach towards the presence of big names in politics or the “giants" who are ready to be the candidates in several state seats.

Its chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the BN machinery was in high spirits in ensuring the big names would fall in the 15th General Election (GE15).

"It is a good thing. If there is not one opposing, no “giant” would come, we are worried if the BN machinery is asleep.

"However, with the presence of the giant, the BN machinery promises it will work hard to ensure that the giant will be killed. I take it as something positive.

"It doesn't matter if it is a giant or not because the bigger their position, the more powerful the BN machinery would be in fighting to the end," he said.

He said this during the meet and greet programme with residents of Kampung Chengai, Sungkai, here, in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration, today.

Also present were MCA vice-president Datuk Mah Hang Soon and Perak MIC chairman Datuk V. Elango.

Saarani who is also Perak Menteri Besar reminded the BN machinery not to be swayed with the propaganda showed by the opposition.

"If we see the parades in Larut and Tambun, I would say not to worry about it because it is just 10 per cent of the entire voters, the other 90 per cent is still open. I am confident that voters have learnt from the mistakes in 2018.

"The people of Tambun wouldn't easily be swayed as the MP candidate once led the Sarawak, Melaka and Johor state elections but returned empty handed. Let’s reject this together," he said.

When asked about the nomination of the Tambun division Umno chief candidate Datuk Aminuddin Md Hanafiah to contest in the Tambun Parliamentary seat, Saarani said it was not finalised.

"BN has its own wisdom and we will announce when the time comes on which candidate is suitable," he said.

In GE15, Perak was expected to witness a few big names namely Pakatan Harapan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Bersatu vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Amumu, Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau Hoe Chai and Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.
