GE15: Candidates should declare assets before election, says Rasuah Busters
NURUL AISYAH MOHD NOR
SHAH ALAM – Anti-graft movement #RasuahBusters has urged for candidates contesting in 15th General Election (GE15) to declare their assets so that the people can be assured of their integrity.
The movement's Chief Executive Officer, Nurhayati Nordin argued such a declaration was imperative to prevent GE15 candidates from being implicated by scandals involving illicit funds.
"Controversies where unknown funds being wired into a candidate's personal account has caused various problems and undermined the people's trust and their mandate.
"Currently, the declaration of the property of the candidates standing for election can be one of the efforts to avoid any form of potential corruption that may occur," she wrote in a statement.
Nurhayati further stated that the declaration will also act as the initial commitment of the candidates to display a level of integrity and accountability to the people and the country.
“It is time for the ecosystem of integrity and corruption-free to become the 'trademark' for candidates," she added.
