SHAH ALAM - A leadership crisis is plaguing Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) with party president Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin having the legitimacy of her presidency challenged by her predecessor, Datuk Larry Sng Wei Shein.

Sng refuted Zuraida’s appointment on October 7, citing records from the Registrar of Societies (ROS) in proving that he is still the legitimately recognised president of PBM adding that the party meeting which decided on Zuraida’s presidency was not sanctioned by him.

“The meeting was held at the same time as the Budget Speech by the Finance Minister and I was only informed of the outcome after it was held.

“The decision of the meeting was said to have appointed Datuk Zuraida Kamarudin as President, when in fact the position was never vacant.

“I strongly despise and condemn such political manoeuvring which has undermined the trust of my leadership and have caused confusion to party members and the general public at large,” Sng wrote in a statement on Facebook.

In light of the matter, Snd had exercised his presidential power -- in accordance with Article 60 (iii) of PBM’s constitution -- to suspend party secretary-general Nor Hizwan Ahmad and information chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid with immediate effect.

“Their positions will be suspended until a disciplinary committee is set up to look into the matter after the 15th General Election.

“In the meantime, the function of the Secretary General shall be undertaken by the Deputy Secretary-General, Jenny Chiew,” added Sng.
