Women represent more than 50 per cent of the Malaysian population which is represented in the electorate gender breakdown. Yet, women make up only 14 per cent of elected parliament representatives.

Although Malaysian political parties have shown some efforts to increase female participation in parliament over the last two General Elections, women are still underrepresented in politics.
