The current High Commissioner of Malaysia to Singapore is the first Malaysian to receive the prestigious award.
"The award was in recognition of his long and distinguished career in the service of the Government of Malaysia and his work to build international cooperation in maritime-related issues through constructive dialogue,” said WMU on its website.
Azfar received the award at WMU Graduation Ceremony 2022 held in Malmo, Sweden on Oct 31.
Azfar obtained his Master of Science in Maritime Affairs from the WMU, Sweden in 2001 and his Ph.D. in Maritime Law from the University of Wales Swansea, United Kingdom in 2011.
WMU was founded in 1983 by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialised agency of the United Nations, as its premier centre of excellence for maritime postgraduate education, research, and capacity building.
Azfar served as the Ambassador of Malaysia to France from 2018 to 2021 prior to his appointment as High Commissioner of Malaysia to the republic.
The head of mission presented his credentials to Singapore President Halimah Yacob on Aug 31, 2021. - BERNAMA
