SHAH ALAM - Voters need to reject candidates linked to court cases or undergoing prison sentence in the 15th General Election (GE15), said Rasuah Busters Chief Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub.

He said actions were needed to build a corrupt free country.

"If (maybe) the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) or police missed it (the screening towards candidates who have been involved in corruption), voters themselves could find out.

"Before we vote (for a candidate) we must do our own screening with the multitude of technology that we have for us to find and see their backgrounds ourselves.

"So, at least we are not dependent on the screenings by the MACC or police, but we as voters could make the screening and take the initiative to find the strengths and weaknesses of the candidate," he said when becoming the guest on the 'Malaysia This Evening' programme in Bernama TV on Friday.

Hussamuddin also urged voters to choose a candidate or a potential representative with integrity, not based on party.

"Now is the time for us to rebuild this country, we need to ensure we would choose a candidate with integrity in GE15. Meaning if there were still parties that gather a group of candidates without integrity, we must reject that party.

"That is why there is power to the people, so we must take this responsibility to screen the candidates who have slipped through (having court cases or have been imprisoned) to reject them," he said.
