'Focus on election first, then only think of coalition' – Muhyiddin

JITRA - Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin wants to focus on facing the 15th General Election (GE15) before considering cooperation between the coalition parties to form a government.

He said this was because it was something unexpected but did not rule out the possibility that it could happen.

However, according to him, PN hopes there would be a new wave that would rid the country of 'political garbage' by getting rid of BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“I can't think of contingencies like if there aren't enough numbers, we're ready to work together or vice versa.

"The stance of PN is that we finish GE15 first, what comes in the future, we don't know. So, we are fighting as best as we can in the hope of gaining the support of voters to form a government," he said at a press conference after a casual meet and greet with the Jitra community at the Jitra Dua Town Food Court, here on Tuesday.

Also present was PN candidate for the Kubang Pasu Parliament Datuk Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail.

He said this when asked to comment on the statement by BN Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who expressed his willingness to cooperate with any coalition, should the party not be able to win an easy majority.

Muhyiddin, who is also the President of the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) said it was up to Zahid as each party had the right to plan its future.

" Zahid speaks like he is not convinced that BN can form a government, but he initially wants to form a government, that's his right," he said.

In the meantime, he stressed that there is no major crisis in PN other than all the issues that are in dispute among the components of the coalition have been successfully resolved.

"The cooperation between the component parties i.e. Bersatu, Pas and Gerakan is quite good and there is clear mission.

“This gives strength to PN at the Parliamentary and State Legislative Assembly (DUN) levels that we contest," he said.

He said the good relationship between the party's top leadership also strengthened the idea of staying stable if it succeeded in forming a government once again.

"We have no problem, we hide nothing. There is no major crisis engulfing the party, to some extent it is normal. This gives the view that PN is sticking to what it promises.

"We want to help the people as well as come clean without corruption or abuse of power that will inspire voters' confidence that PN is the best choice," he said.
