LRT disruption: Woman becomes robbery victim while taking alternate route

KUALA LUMPUR - The Light Rail Transit (LRT) disruption is not only affecting the journey of the residents of the Klang Valley, but also exposes passengers to danger.

A woman became a victim of robbery outside the Sri Rampai LRT station in Wangsa Maju after being forced to use an alternate route following the service disruption on Wednesday morning.

Nur Sophia Jesmine Hasmin, 25, was supposed to travel to her office via the Kelana Jaya LRT line from the Sri Rampai LRT station to USJ 7.

However, after being told by an auxiliary police at the station that the LRT service to her destination was affected, Nur Sophia asked for help from her father to pick her up and send her to the office by car.

During the incident which happened at about 7am, while the victim was waiting for her father at the intersection between the Sri Rampai LRT station and a condominium, Nur Sophia was approached by two men riding a motorcycle.

Nur Sophia claimed that one of the men grabbed her bag which had her laptop and handphone in it.

"At first, I refused to let go of my bag. However, after the man tore the bag with a knife, I let it go before running away," she told Astro Awani, today.

However, the victim was unharmed.

Following the incident, Nur Sophia lodged a police report at the Setiawangsa police station and was informed that the police would investigate the incident and check the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the scene.

On Wednesday, Prasarana Berhad announced that the LRT service on the Kelana Jaya line at 16 stations from Kelana Jaya to Ampang Park Station was suspended for seven days due to technical problems. - AWANI
