GE15: Pas has already abused Islam, what more if they win - Dr Mahathir

SHAH ALAM - Pas should not win the 15th General Election (GE15) and form the Federal Government because Islam will only be abused under their power, claims Pejuang chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

English news portal The Star reporter Dr Mahathir had said the extremists in the party would bring problems to the country, and even now the party had abused the religion with the power they have.

"I think we will face a lot of problems if they win because there are extremists among them.

“However, there is no problem with those who stick to the proper teachings of Islam," he said.

He further called out PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for using religion as leverage for political purposes.

He said the party had manipulated religion and displayed Islamic attributes that they did not have in the past.

"We found that they (Perikatan) were trying to manipulate the religion and try to show that they were trained in Islamic matters.

“In the past, Muhyiddin did not say prayers when giving speeches, but he now likes to say long prayers," he said at the ‘Rapat Umum Sayang Bangsa and Negara with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’ at the Cinta Sayang Resort, Sungai Petani, yesterday.

When asked to comment about Pejuang, Dr Mahathir described the party as different since it was the movement of the people and not fully political.

"Pejuang is different from other parties as we are not fully political. We are a movement of the people," he added.
