SHAH ALAM - The turnout rate for Chinese voters for the 15th General Election (GE15) is expected to be lesser than in GE14.

This was because majority of them expected that a unity government would be formed after the election.

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Tun Tan Cheng Lock Social and Policy Studies Centre director Professor Madya Dr Chin Yee Mun said other than the possibility of the forming of a unity government between parties in the government and opposition after GE15, majority of the Chinese voters were disappointed with the Sheraton Move incident which saw the fall of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government in February 2020.

"I have yet to see any sentiments of Chinese voters to go back and vote as much as in GE14 with a majority of them facing political fatigue after the Sheraton Move.

"Based on the current situation I believe that the voter turnout rate in GE15 may be affected until 60 to 75 per cent compared to GE13 and GE14 that reached over 80 per cent," he told Sinar Premium.

Meanwhile, Gerakan Pelajar India Se-Malaysia president Arvend Appalasamy revealed that an average of Indian youth voters seemed to be more interested in taking advantage of the public holiday for polling day by going on a vacation with their family.

"To be honest, the sentiment of Indian voters especially the youths to participate in GE15 is 50-50 because majority of them were fed up with the Malaysian political drama.
