SEMPORNA - Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, believes that the straight fight in the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat will not affect the likelihood of retaining his seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Bung Moktar, who has held the seat for six terms, said that his confidence to win was based on his commitment, work ethic and engagement sessions with his constituents, which he did together with the BN machinery.

"Although I am not currently in the area, the campaign is ongoing. I am confident that the people of Kinabatangan know how to make assessments.

"BN will continue to defend its victory in the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat," he told reporters after a programme with the BN candidate for the Bugaya state by-election, Abd Aziz Mohd Ibno, today.

In GE15 the Kinabatangan parliamentary seat will witness Bung Moktar challenged by the Warisan candidate, Mazliwati Abdul Malek.

Meanwhile, Bung Moktar said that the Bugaya state seat needs to be led by a representative from the government to enable the area to receive significant infrastructure and economic development.

"If this opportunity is not utilised by voters of Bugaya state seat, this will be a big loss for the people, because Sabah is led by the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah government together with BN,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abd Aziz, in his speech, proposed a number of issues to be studied by the state government, including expediting housing restructuring in Kampung Bangau-Bangau and Kampung Simunul, here, and for the government to increase telecommunication access in Bugaya state constituency.

Bugaya has 32,761 registered voters. The seat will witness a six-cornered clash on Nov 19, between Abd Aziz, Jamil Hamzah (Warisan), Karil Pg Kuraini (Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah), Arastam Pandorog (Pakatan Harapan), Jufazli Shi Ahmad (Independent) and Nazmawati Walli (Pejuang). - BERNAMA
