SHAH ALAM - Pakatan Harapan Subang candidate Wong Chen said he believed that Malaysia will go into a recession soon.

"Europe is going to be in recession because of the Ukraine war, and China is going to be in recession because of COVID-19, and this could affect Malaysia." "If the Barisan Nasional (BN) continues to govern the country, I would like to suggest to the caretaker Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz and Bank Negara to have a correct story; are we going to have a recession or not." he said during a Fireside Chat with Sinar Daily.

Wong said he did not believe Bank Negara's statement that Malaysia will escape recession.

He added based on data collection and what was being briefed to him by PH chairman chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, we believe that the recession is coming soon." he stressed.

Meanwhile on the issue of youth unemployment, Wong said one way to overcome it is by increasing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) " Employees must invest in tools, robotics, technology, and software to overcome this issue." On selecting the right leaders, Wong added that while most politicians are charming and charismatic, Malaysians should look for a leader who is good in economics, politics, knows the law, and understands basic accounting in order to rebuild a better government structure than before with a clear economic policy.

The Subang parliamentary seat will see a three-cornered fight this 15th General Election (GE15).

Incumbent Wong Chen (Pakatan Harapan - PKR) will be defending the seat against Kow Cheong Wei (Barisan Nasional - MCA) and Ang Hiang Ni (Perikatan Nasional - Gerakan).

Wong won the Subang seat in GE14 and GE13.
