Nine rivers in Selangor are at dangerous levels

SHAH ALAM - Water level readings in nine rivers in Selangor are at dangerous levels as of 7.50am on Thursday.

On its Facebook page, The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) in a statement said the nine areas involved five districts, namely Sepang (Labu River, Langat River in Dengkil, Langat river in Jenderam Hilir), Hulu Langat (Semenyih River) and Petaling district (Bakul River).

The statement added five rivers in Klang namely Binjai River, Klang River, Rasau River in Taman Desa Kemuning, Risau River in Tugu Keris and Kandis River were also at dangerous levels.

The Kuala Langat district involved one area which was the Langat River in Bukit Changgang.

The statement advised the public to always be aware with water level readings and the heavy rains in surrounding areas.

" Information could be obtained through the website http://publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my," Meanwhile the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) warned of storms, heavy rains and strong winds which were predicted to happen in seven states until 10am.

The statement noted that the areas involved were Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu and Marang in Terengganu, Rompin in Pahang and Kuala Langat and Sepang in Selangor.

Other areas affected were Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau in Negeri Sembilan, Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Mersing and Kota Tinggi in Johor, as well as Melaka.

A few areas in Sarawak namely Lundu and Kuching as well as a few areas in Sabah namelyTelupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran, Sandakan and Kudat.

The statement said warnings were released when there were signs which showed storms with intense rain fall over 20mm per hour that would last more than one hour.

"The storm prediction was a short-term warning that was valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single issue," the statement read.
