SHAH ALAM - Two former academicians have withdrawn support from G70 Malay Professors’ Declaration in 15th general election (GE15).

They are Dr Ishak Yussof and Dr Ahmad Mujahid Zaidi.

G70 Malay Professors coordinator Dr Saadiah Mohamad said the names of the two were previously listed in the declaration document announced on Wednesday.

"G70 Malay Professors have expelled their names from the list of supporting names in the 70 Malay Professors' Declaration," she said in a statement on Thursday.

She added the G70 Malay Professors have received good response from the community for supporting PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as a prime minister candidate.

"All Malaysians need to take advantage of GE15 to choose a government that is competent and possesses integrity under the leadership of Anwar Ibrahim," she said.

On Wednesday, the media reported that the group of 70 Malay professors known as the G70 supported Anwar as a prime minister candidate based on his credibility and excellent track record.

A spokesman for the G70 Malay Professor's Declaration, Professor Datuk Dr Ir Wan Ramli Wan Daud said Anwar was the only figure with authority and experience as well as integrity who was able to lead a diverse society.

On Thursday, caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the G70's stance does not represent the National Council of Professors (MPN).
