SUNGAI BULOH – He has said before and tonight, in his finale rally, Khairy Jamaluddin has said it again – that he will be Prime Minister; and that his victory in the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat will pave the way for his bid to power.

“I told Ismail Sabri (caretaker PM Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob), you be the PM first. Stabilise the country and when the time is right, I will take the voices of those in Sungai Buloh all the way to Putrajaya. This is do or die for me.

“I leave my fate in politics to hands of the people in Sungai Buloh. If I win, I will forever be indebted to all of you,” said Khairy who described his electoral bout in Sungai Buloh as akin to climbing the Everest.

Khairy, popularly known as KJ, remarked that he likened his candidacy for the seat as such because, Sungai Buloh is an urban seat which Umno leaders tend to avoid contesting in.

“I came to Sungai Buloh knowing how uncertain my future will be. I got out of my comfort zone but after two weeks of campaigning...would you look at the crowd in front of me today.

“I wonder why BN leaders are so scared of facing the urban voters. Afraid of not getting warm welcomes? Look at the one I got now. If you want to sell BN, then you need to enter the dragon’s den,” Khairy stressed.

Khairy, who was previously the MP for Rembau, also assured the constituents of Sungai Buloh that a vote for him will not translate into a vote for Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

“Zahid Hamidi is not contesting in Sungai Buloh. I am. Do not be hoodwinked by Pakatan Harapan (PH). If they are so obsessed in wanting to defeat Zahid, then they should just make sure Shamsul Iskandar beats him in Bagan Datuk,” Khairy clarified.

PH has since the start of the 15th General Election (GE15) campaign week, floated the narrative that a vote for Khairy will eventually pave the way for Zahid to be PM.

“BN’s PM candidate is Ismail Sabri.

“Dear people of Sungai Buloh. I want you to know that Ismail Sabri is a good person. He has no scandals. He comes from a poor family in Bera. I was a part of his government, I know him well,” implored Khairy.

Khairy is up against a six-corner bout with his fiercest contender being PH’s Ramanan Ramakrishnan given how PKR – a component party in PH – has been retaining the seat since the previous three general elections.
