KUALA SELANGOR - BN candidate for the Kuala Selangor Parliament Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz steals the spotlight when he que up with other voters at the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Puncak Alam Polling Centre here today.

Tengku Zafrul, who arrived at about 8.15am, waited for his turn before the election returning officer asked him to proceed to the polling station.

Tengku Zafrul when met told that, upon arriving at the polling station, he wanted to queue with other voters because he did not want to disturb the voting process.

"Actually, I wanted to queue earlier, but many people took pictures and after that (the EC staff) informed me that there was no need to queue and I went ahead after being advised," he said at a press conference after he voted at SK Puncak Alam 2 here on Saturday.

Asked about the voting process, Tengku Zafrul said that he expected many voters in the Parliament to go out to vote, especially when the weather was not hot.

"I think if the weather continues like this, many will go out to vote because it has been raining in the Kuala Selangor area since midnight and only stopped this morning (Saturday)," he said.

He said, while on his way to SK Puncak Alam 2, several polling stations saw people queuing up to carry out their respective responsibilities in the 15th General Election (GE15).

"My hope, especially (in the Kuala Selangor Parliament) is that the turnout percentage is high, previously it was 80 per cent," he said.

However, he explained, the number of voters this time was different compared to the previous election due to the fact that there were Undi18 votes and automatic voter registration.

Tengku Zafrul said he wanted to see the practice of the democratic process run smoothly and for the voters to carry out their respective responsibilities.

"More voters turning out to vote is better because this is our democratic system," he explained.

Tengku Zafrul said he had high hopes that the people in that Parliament would make the best decision to choose the best candidate.

"I really hope that I will be elected as a representative (Member of Parliament) for Kuala Selangor and my hope is that we can also form the government.

"If elected as a representative, we have indeed made a commitment in the manifesto to give everything to the people in Kuala Selangor, but the important thing is whoever wins or loses, this is the principle of democracy and we have to respect what the people want," he explained.

In GE15, Tengku Zafrul was opposed by the incumbent from Pakatan Harapan, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, candidates from Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang), Mohd Shaid Rosli and Mohd Noor Mohd Sahar (PN-PAS).
