He obtained a total of 28,702 votes while defeating Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate Nixon Abdul Habi with a total of 7,892 votes.
Two other candidates who also opposed the incumbent had lost their deposits, namely Arastam Pandarog from Pakatan Harapan (PH) with 1,848 votes and Ab Rajik Hamid from Pejuang with 467 votes.
Shafie's younger brother Datuk Mohammad Yusof who represented Warisan managed to capture the Lahad Datu Parliament with 27,116 votes and a majority of 4,376 votes.
He also defeated the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Maizatul Akmam Alawi with a total of 22,740 votes and PH candidate Sia Yu Hock with a total of 8,289 votes.
