PUTRAJAYA - No Malaysians have been reported to be involved in the earthquake in West Java, so far.

The Foreign Ministry in a statement today informed that the matter was confirmed by the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta.

"Malaysians who need consular assistance or have any further questions can contact the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta via 62 21 5224947 or 62 813 8081 3036 as well as [email protected]," the ministry said.

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale occurred at 1.21pm local time on Monday in Cianjur district, West Java Province, Indonesia about 110 kilometres from Jakarta.

The death toll from the earthquake rose to 162 people while hundreds more were injured.

West Java governor Ridwan Kamil also confirmed that 13,000 residents were now taking shelter in temporary relief centres after their homes were destroyed in the earthquake.
