Don’t cover your ears president – Ismail Sabri

Umno vice president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said Zahid needed to take due consideration of those views for the sake of Umno’s future.
“Don’t cover your ears and ignore everyone’s views. It is true that the president was chosen through the general assembly but when the division chiefs and many other parties voice their statements, I hope the president would consider them accordingly.
“The president can’t just be fired. If you want to fire the president, it requires two thirds of support from Umno members and a general assembly must be called for,” he said.
However, he said the president could withdraw or resign on his own accord according to provisions in the Umno constitution.
When asked about the discussion and offers given by Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) to form the government with BN, Ismail Sabri said no decision had been made so far.
“Whatever offer we (Umno) receive, it’s useless for us to discuss because for PH the entire membership rejects it. For PN we were divided with half saying not to discuss, to not waste any time,” he said.
He was speaking on the sidelines of a meeting between BN and PH leadership in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
“That’s why we made a decision for now, there is no need to give the impression of wanting to be with PH or PN,” he said.
On Monday, 26 BN MPs attended in the meeting of the party and PH at a hotel.
No coalition had yet to form a government placing the Parliament at a standstill.
In GE15 PH had obtained 82 Parliamentary seats throughout the country while PN obtained 73 seats, BN (30), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) (22), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) (six) and Warisan (three). Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) obtained one seat in Parliament while independent candidates obtained two seats.
