Syndicate busted, drugs worth over RM500,000 seized

Police smashes drug trafficking syndicate that has been active in the Klang Valley following the arrest of a man and seizing RM550,000 worth of heroin in a raid at Kampung Kubu Gajah Dalam, Sungai Buloh.

KUALA LUMPUR - Police smashed a drug trafficking syndicate that has been active in the Klang Valley for the past three months following the arrest of a man and seizing RM550,000 worth of heroin in a raid at Kampung Kubu Gajah Dalam, Sungai Buloh near here, on Tuesday.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said the 34-year-old suspect was arrested in a car at 5 pm by a team of officers and members of the Bukit Aman Narcotics CID and Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters CID.

"From an inspection of the suspect's Honda CRV, police found three boxes containing 90 packages of heroin weighing 41 kilogrammes (kg). The suspect was arrested while waiting for the customer to pick up the drug," he said in a statement today.

Azmi said investigations found that heroin seized from the suspect was also processed around the Klang Valley.

"The suspect is still single and does not have a permanent job and trafficking drug is his main source of income. He however has no past records," he said.

Azmi said the syndicate was spotted operating by placing drugs in unlocked cars for buyers to take.

Instructions were also given over the phone before the payment was bank in by the buyer after the supply (drugs) was received, he said.

Following the arrest, the suspect was remanded for seven days starting yesterday until 29 November under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952 to assist the investigation.
