KOTA KINABALU - Gabungan Rakyat Sabah's (GRS) support to be part of the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was done after taking into account of interests for Sabah.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the desire to join the unity government is for the good of Sabah and the current political stability.

"We are thinking about the importance of the state of Sabah, under the GRS where we give priority to Sabah so I think Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (Pribumi Bersatu president) knows about this.

"He is a wise man. I don't think we have a problem, because this is our decision in the GRS," he told reporters after tabling the 2023 Sabah Budget at the Sabah State Legislative Assembly, here, today.

Hajiji was responding over questions on GRS's support for the unity government and the reaction from Muhyiddin on the matter.

When asked how fared GRS' cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) Sabah, the GRS chairman replied that it was going well.

"This unity government looks good. So, the important thing is that we focus on economic recovery and also on developing the state of Sabah and safeguard the well-being of the people, that's more important," he said.

Speaking about the previous post of Deputy Prime Minister (TPM) offered by Pakatan Harapan (PH), Hajiji said it was up to the leadership at the Federal level.

Meanwhile, his deputy Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin wanted the Sabah government to emulate the Peninsular's unity government, stressing that it can further ensure proper spillover of economic and development growth.

"I understand the name of unity means that everyone can join the government. So, I welcome any party that joins this unity government to ensure unity.

"This is our priority and this politics passes once every five years, of course I would like to see that the unity government that was espoused by Yang-dipertuan Agong will ensure that the people are taken cared of and that the economy of the country can be restored," he said.
