Unity govt needs to give Kelantan oil royalty
KOTA BHARU – Pertubuhan Royalti Kelantan (R) hopes that the unity government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership will not deny the oil royalty payments to the state.
Its president Nazri Deraman said the state has the right over the payment as enshrined in the Royalty Agreement 1975 and the Petroleum Development Act 1974.
“There are big hopes from all the people in this state, regardless of political affiliation that the payment (royalty) will not be forgotten,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
In another development, Nazri hoped that Anwar would be able to shoulder the responsibility as Prime Minister for Malaysians regardless of race and religion.
He said the people dreamt of a developed, corruption-free and prosperous country under Anwar’s leadership.
On Oct 22, it was reported that Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that Kelantan would get oil royalties if the coalition was given the mandate to govern the country after the 15th General Election (GE15).
Muhyiddin said the payment of five per cent would be given to Kelantan as provided under the original agreement related to royalty payments
