Fines up to RM100,000 for mislabeling eggs, warns ministry

He said action can be taken under Section 5(1)(b) of the Trade Description Act 2011 with fines up to RM100,000 or imprisoned for not more than three years or both while companies can be fined up to RM250,000.
He said so far he has received 291 complaints with grades (117) and 174 general complaints on eggs this year.
"The ministry has taken some samples of premium eggs that were sold at some selected premises.
"The egg samples will be tested to find out that the contents are exactly as claimed by the producers, wholesalers and retailers involved.
"Action can be taken after laboratory test results to checks against quality of eggs," he said in a statement.
It was previously reported that several wholesalers who changed regular grade eggs to premium eggs to reap profits.
Azman said price of premium type eggs were not controlled and the ministry has set the maximum price for farm, wholesale and retail for A, B and C grade eggs.
The ministry has urged consumers to come forward to complain on eggs through WhatsApp at 0192794317 or 0198488000.
Complaints can also be made via 1-800-886-800 or the Enforcement Command Center (ECC) at 0388826088/6245.
