PUTRAJAYA -Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming says there are no plans for local government elections.

He said there are many other issues that needs to be resolved immediately and local government elections are not in the list.

“No plans for local government elections, it is not an immediate focus for now.

“We have seven main focus, we will do that first,” he told reporters after clocking in to work today at the ministry, here.

Nga also laid out seven main initiatives to improve the ministry immediately, including developing local government, introducing comprehensive housing planning, to name a few.

"Among the main focus are developing and strengthening integrity level of local governments, expanding local authorities (PBT) to be strong financial organisations.

"Apart from that, to have more comprehensive housing planning, community empowerment, effective and efficient solid waste management are also in my main focus," he said.

With the northeast monsoon season nearing, Nga would also be expanding the readiness of firefighters and rescue teams to provide timely assistance to flood victims.

"This includes the firefighting equipment, additional fire stations and improvement within the rescue team itself," he added.
