SHAH ALAM - Efforts and commitment of the unity government is now the centre of the public's discussion after a new Cabinet lineup was announced last week.

A few ministers were understood to have started their official duties on Monday after a special Cabinet meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Among the issues raised were flood preparations, cost of living and supply of eggs.

However, the most exciting development was regarding the agreement that all Cabinet ministers will take a 20 per cent pay cut till economy improves, a move to show government's commitment towards country's economic recovery.

Several ministries are expected to announce the steps or initiatives to ease rakyat's burden.

Among them were the Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook who had a surprise survey on the Kelana Jaya Light Rail Transit (LRT) service on Monday. In a Facebook post, he said a survey was conducted without informing Prasarana and the media in order to have a more personal experience of public transport users during peak hours.

He said he would also hold a meeting with Prasarana's top management this week to discuss the direction and ways to improve the country's public transport service.

The Digital Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil would have a meeting with social media service providers to discuss issues related to the spread of false information and aggressive content.

He had officially begun his duties at the Digital Communications Ministry, here on Monday and stated the meeting would give him the space to understand the regulatory framework of each social media service provider.
