5G rollout soon, assures Fahmi

SHAH ALAM - Communications and Digital minister Fahmi Fadzil says Putrajaya will ensure the 5G rollout will be carried out soon after a review.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had also said during a Cabinet meeting to ensure the rollout was carried out without interruptions.

"We are hoping (the rollout) in several weeks from now", he said.

Fahmi said is now looking at the processes and techinical aspects to ensure the 5G service to enjot smooth delivery.

"In other countries, they have started with 6G," he said during a press conference.

The 5G project was given to Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) under the previous government. Fahmi said DNB would continue to develop 5G infrastructure.

"As of 31 Oct 2022, a total of 2,715 5G sites have been completed covering 36 percent coverage in residential areas", he said.
