KUALA LUMPUR - More holistic ecosystem are needed to help empower women in the country, said newly-appointed Women Minister today.

Helming the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said more focus will be given to empower women through skill development as she believed that women in the country still lacked skills.

Further, she also stressed that more aid for woman should be given, however, it has to be selective and exclusive to their individual needs.

“We have been giving out many aid for women, in terms of skill empowerment and training. Unfortunately, that is not enough.

“There have been cases previously where some of them couldn't attend because they need to take care of their children.

"Therefore, we have to be more selective on the type of aid we should offer to them,” she said at a press conference after officiating a political forum today.

Apart from that, Nancy also opined that aid in terms of knowledge and education should also be given priority.

“Education is crucial for every woman. They have to equip and empower themselves with education to brace the challenges in the world.

“We must also empower woman economically through education,” she added.
